Rappahannock Community College’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning will hold a course titled, “Military Geography and War-fighting,” on March 31, April 7 and 14 at RCC’s Glenns campus from 10 a.m. until noon each session.
This course will explore the crucial role of geography in military operations, highlighting its influence on planning and execution. Students will learn the overview of key geographic principles.
They will also undergo an in-depth analysis of four case studies, including Operation Market Garden (1944), the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen (1945) and the Ia Drang (1965) and Khe Sanh (1968) campaigns in Vietnam. Key course topics include climate, weather, hydrography, topography, infrastructure and human impacts.
Retired U.S. Army Colonel Dr. Paul Severance, who taught Military Geography at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C., from 1998-2018, is the course instructor.
