RAYMOND THOMAS DOYLE JR.

Raymond Thomas Doyle Jr., 89, a man of great integrity and strong work ethic died on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Yorktown, Va. Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Baltimore, Md., he was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School and a 1958 graduate of Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Apprentice School as a machinist. He worked as a supervisor in the Machine Shop. Raymond and his wife Sallie worked together for 36 years owning and operating Houston Printing Company. Along with dedicated employees, they served the community until retirement in 2006. He will be remembered as a devoted family patriarch, successful business owner, avid boater, photographer, and volunteer firefighter, earning the honorary distinction of Life Member from Hampton Station 1.

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sallie Byrd Carleton Doyle of Hampton, HHS sweethearts, married June 21, 1958. Ray and Sallie celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary prior to her death on Nov. 1, 2007.

Raymond’s legacy is carried on by his three daughters and their families: Sally Ellen Doyle Miller, husband Keith Edward Miller, Yorktown; Nancy Elizabeth Doyle Mears, husband Jay Edward Mears, Chesapeake; Carolyn Byrd Doyle Robertson, husband the Rev. (ret.) Robert “Robbie” John Robertson III, Virginia Beach; six grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Mears, Steven Edward Miller with his son Merlin Stone DiEmidio Miller, Dr. Caroline Taylor Mears Norris with joyful anticipation of a baby girl, Sarah Ellen Miller, Michael Thomas Robertson, Katherine Byrd Robertson.

Raymond was also preceded in death by: parents, Raymond Thomas Doyle Sr., Sarah “Ellen” Schoonmaker Doyle, Hampton; in-laws, Franklin Hall Carleton, Sarah Emma Louise Face Carleton, Hampton; Nina Winder Miller, Hallieford, Va., his companion of 10 years and HHS classmate.

March 10, 2025, after a Fireman’s Procession, Raymond was laid to rest next to his wife. The Rev. Robbie Robertson conducted a graveside service, St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, 100 West Queens Way, Hampton. Arrangements by Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home www.parklawn-woodfh.com.
