Raymond “Ray” Allen McConkey Jr., age 68, of Hampton, died at Sentara Careplex on Friday, February 16, 2024. Ray was born on July 31, 1955 to the late Raymond Allen McConkey Sr. and Hattie Mae Christensen. Ray’s greatest joy in life was helping others. He loved his church family at Central Baptist Church of Yorktown and did many things around the church where he preferred to work behind the scenes. He would go without just to give to others. He was also a great cook and a very creative person. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Brown. Ray is survived by brothers, W.L. Brown and his wife Marla, and Al Christensen and his wife Sandy. Sister-in-law Lorraine Brown also survives him. The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Hogg Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. conducted by Pastor John Charles. Interment to follow in Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
