Raymond Randall “Ray” Sykes, 73, of Dutton, died Oct. 20, 2013 at MCV Hospital.

Ray was a faithful member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a Godly man always smiling and an inspiration to all. He loved music, bowling on the church team, fishing and being on the water. He put his family first, and was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. There was nothing he would not do for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Margie U. Sykes; children, Becky Foster, Wendy Lowry (Charlie), Shelley Johnston (Daniel), Todd Lafferty (Debra), Thomas Nelson Sykes and Steven Sykes; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Charles E. McDaniel were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment was at 2:30 p.m. at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, Va. 23150. The family received friends prior to the service on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.
