RAYMOND ‘POPS’ JOSEPH MURPHY JR.

Raymond “Pops” Joseph Murphy Jr., 75, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on November 15, 1948 at Flushing Hospital in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late Raymond Joseph and Eleanor Margaret Baynes Murphy. Raymond served in the Air Force for 23 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. His service included tours in Japan and Korea, and he was lastly stationed at Langley Air Force Base. He was a veteran of both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. A history enthusiast, Raymond loved visiting local historical sites, but his greatest joy was being a devoted father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Barbara Pioli, William Murphy, and Kenneth Murphy, and his parents. He is survived by his children, Sharon Campbell (William), Ray Murphy (Courtney), and Ben Murphy (Ashley Foley), and “Pop Pop’s” beloved granddaughter, Allie Murphy. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
