Raymond Morris (Moses) Ross, 43, of Gloucester, Va., has gone home to see the Lord, from an extensive illness on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1968 in Clovis, New Mexico, was raised in Hampton, Va., and was in the class of 1987 at Bethel High School in Hampton.
He was the son of Raymond William Ross and the late Mary Audrey (Pescatore) Ross.
He served seven years in the National Guard, four years in the Army Reserve, and retired from the United States Army with three years of service as a Communication Specialist. He was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, member of the Gloucester American Legion Post #75, VFW Post #9808 Mechanicsville, Va.
Raymond loved football, helped coaching GYFL, fishing and golf. He loved the Dallas Cowboys football, New York Yankees baseball and best of all the Tour de France and the inspiration of Lance Armstrong. He overall loved just being around all his family and friends.
Other than his father, he is survived by his wife of 18 years, Kathleen E. (Collins) Ross; a step-son, Jeffrey Collins of Gloucester; four sisters, Melissa Joyner and her husband William of Seattle, Wash., Rhonda Smith and her husband Billy of Yorktown, Va., Audrey Ostoyic and her husband Billy of Deltona, Fla., Angela Taylor and her husband Gerry of Lutz, Fla.; a brother, Ben Ross and his wife Brianna of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandson, whom he was close to, Jace Collins of Gloucester, and a granddaughter, Jaela Thomas of Seattle; seven nieces; eight nephews; one great-nephew, and longtime best friends and honorary pallbearers, Johnny Winter, Jeff Phillips, Vincent McVicker, Ben Ross (brother), and Randy Holloway.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Bellamy Memorial Cemetery, 4870 Chestnut Fork Rd., Gloucester, with military honors. The Rev. Mary Dell Sig-
ler will officiate.
