Ray Ivan Etheridge, 87, of Seaford, Va., passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.
Ray was a native of Guernsey, Wyo., and was a former resident of Gloucester before moving to the Peninsula in 1982.
He retired as a Lieutenant from the U.S. Navy after 25 years serving during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. After retirement he worked in Naval Mine Engineering at Naval Weapons Station, York-
town, and was also a real estate agent. He was a former member and helped to build Apostles Lutheran Church in Gloucester, and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford.
Ray is survived by his wife Frances; three sons, Ivan Etheridge (Shari) of Gloucester, Ronnie Mills (Irene) of Seaford, Robbie Mills (Brenda) of Yorktown; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends, Ron and Brenda Pierce and Barbara Zeno. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Mills.
A funeral service with full military honors was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Zion United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
