Winners in the RAL Art Center Annual Labor Day Art Show were announced during a reception and awards ceremony held on Friday, Sept. 1, at the center on North Main Street in Kilmarnock.
This year’s judge was James Warwick Jones, an award-winning painter and art instructor and the former director of the Charles H. Taylor Art Center.
For the Best in Show award, Jones chose “What Was in that Pot?” a mixed media piece by Laurie Breakwell. The Lella Lee Edwards Memorial Award for Excellence Overall went to “Let There Be Light,” a pastel by Mel Neale.
Other award winners were:
First place, “Feeding Frenzy” in oil by Laura Edwards, “Snorkelupagus” in watercolor by Doug Mock, and “My Perfect Garden” in handmade viscose paper felted onto a wool and silk base by Barbara Brecher; Second place, “Come on Dun” in pastels by Delores Flessner, “Arcadian Autumn” in oil by Joyce Satterwhite, and “Stoney Point” in oil by Kimberly Johnson; Third place, “Ups, Downs, and Levels of Life” in acrylic by Mary El...
