Public speaks out on proposed zoning updates, rezoning case

The Gloucester Planning Commission relocated its meeting to the T.C. Walker Education Center last Thursday evening from the colonial courthouse to accommodate the estimated 200 Gloucester residents who showed up to voice their concerns on the proposed zoning ordinance update, as well as a rezoning case that would allow the possibility of construction of a gas station located north of Riverbend Apartments and Zandler Way.
County staff began the zoning ordinance portion of the meeting covering the highlights of the update, including hot topics that have been receiving a lot of discussion on social media.
Carol Rizzio, assistant Planning director, stated that zoning districts will remain the same with the exception of one parcel, new commercial farming uses will now be allowed in the SC-1 and C-2 residential districts with an approved special exception, fees are not changing and camping will now be allowed on one’s own property for personal use and enjoyment with restrictions.
