The Piankatank River Ladies’ Golf Association had a turnout of 28 players at its contest on Oct 24 at the Hartfield course. The format for the day was Fairways and Putts. As the name suggests, the total score was not the object of the game.
Hitting the fairway on the drive, or the green on par 3s earned each player five points. The total number of putts on each hole was subtracted from the total number of fairways hit for the player’s final score. Winners were:
First flight—Ellen McGowan 45, Nina Carter 26, Kay Stout 26; second flight—Gloria Matthews 37, June Klink 35, Mary Dorman 33; third flight—Ann Stanley 38, Chong Hudgins 31, and Marny Richardson 23.
