Hoover Cannon of Mathews took prizes in the State Fair of Virginia in 1985 with these pumpkins. He told Mathews Extension Service Agent T. E. Dinwiddie, at left, that one of his pumpkins took first place with a weight of 235 pounds, and the other, at 155 pounds, took fourth. The blue ribbon winner was later included in a crop exhibit at Mathews Memorial Library.
