Shoreline stabilization is a major concern for those who live and own property on the water, including those who live in what is essentially a peninsula in Mathews County. The Mathews Gardening Group will hold a program later this month to address that concern.
The group will hold a presentation on the use of native plants as a living shoreline to combat erosion at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The presentation will be held at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office at 10494 Buckley Hall Road, Suite B, Mathews.
The Middle Peninsula Planning District, comprised of six counties, has over 1,000 miles of shoreline. Mathews County, with its more than 300 miles of shoreline, comprises a third of that catchment area.
