Police pursuit Sunday ends in crash

A police pursuit early Sunday afternoon involving excessive speeding resulted in a crash, injuries to two people and pending charges, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.
Just before 12:30 p.m., a VSP trooper observed a 2003 Acura traveling in excess of 100 mph heading northbound on Route 17 near Fiddlers Green Road. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper’s lights and sirens, and began to elude troopers heading into Mathews County.
The suspect turned onto Route 198 where assisting troopers set up and deployed a tire deflation device, Anaya continued, making positive contact with the vehicle. The driver continued to drive a short distance before running off the road onto the shoulder, losing control, and over turning at Buckley Hill Road in Mathews.
