Polar Plunge

Saturday’s fifth annual Mathews Polar Plunge, held at Haven Beach in Diggs, was a great success, according to organizer Amy Ashberry. About 75 people showed up to brave the chilly waters of the Chesapeake Bay, all for a good cause. About $2,100 was raised for Ashberry’s mission work, including packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, global mission trips, and helping local families in need. Temperatures were “relatively” warm in comparison to previous years. This year, temps were in the 40s; the coldest year was 17 degrees with snow on the beach. The youngest to take the plunge was 5, with those of all ages participating.
