Point Tigers win their opener

100 YEARS AGOThursday, June 30, 1921from the Gloucester Gazette
The Gloucester Point Tigers played their first game of the season last Saturday afternoon by defeating a picked team from the lower section of the county to the tune of 11 to 2. Fary, W. Williams and Lewis starred with the willow, while the fielding of White and Tillage was of a high caliber. We are ready to book Saturday games with any teams in the adjoining counties. Write J. Wilton Williams, Hayes Store for games. We hope the County League will be organized—the Tigers are ready to do their part and it would give us a good line on the best team to defeat old Gloucester at the fair this fall.
from the Mathews Journal
Apparently, there will be a plenty of amusements for those desiring to celebrate July 4. Two places in the county, Mobjack at the Peninsula School, and Gwynn’s Island at the High School, will stage entertainments consisting of baseball, speaking, etc. Big days are also advertised for Urbanna and West Point.
