Inclement weather has plans up in the air for the VHSL Class 1/2 Region A Indoor Track and Field Championships, which was originally scheduled for today, Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Boo Williams Sportsplex, Hampton.
Fifteen total teams, including Mathews, will take part in the tournament. According to an email sent out Friday afternoon to coaches and athletic directors, Charles City High School AD André Jones said that an alternate date is Friday, Feb. 21, with a possible afternoon start.
The final alternate day would be Monday, Feb. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. If they go with Monday, Jones said he would ask VHSL for an extension to the regional championship deadline.
In the Blue Devils’ final meet before the regional tournament, on Feb. 4, the MHS boys placed first out of 22 teams from Virginia and North Carolina, while the MHS girls came in 14th place.
