Planners recommend approval of towers

The Mathews Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors held a joint meeting Monday night in the historic courthouse to review three public hearings, two of which were conditional use permits to construct telecommunication towers in Mathews. Planners unanimously recommended for approval.
The applicant, Mathews County, requested to erect two 195-foot monopole telecommunication towers for broadband capabilities on two separate properties. The proposed tower will be capable of supporting four vendors, the first of which will be supplying broadband services for underserved populations in Mathews.
The first property is located at 94 Cricket Hill Road in Hudgins, which is the site of and owned by Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad. The property is in the Business-2 (B-2) zoning district. The second property is located at 4396 East River Road in Bohannon and is owned by the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department.
