Planners endorse zoning text amendment

The Mathews County Planning Commission, after a joint public hearing with the Mathews Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, voted unanimously to recommend that the board approve a text amendment to the zoning ordinance regarding family subdivisions.
Supervisors are expected to consider the recommendation during their meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, in the historic courthouse on Court Street.
The amendment would allow clear interpretation of the regulations related to the required size of the remaining parent parcel after a family subdivision in the Rural zoning district. The size of the remaining parent parcel would be at least 1 acre. The required minimum area of the parcel being transferred to the family member would remain 1 acre, as well.
The commission tabled an application by Shannon Jones for a conditional use permit for a dog grooming facility on a 0.78-acre parcel on Baby Lane pending health department approval.
