Planners endorse working waterfront

Following a public hearing last Thursday in the colonial courthouse, members of the Gloucester County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a Conditional Use Permit for the establishment of the Aberdene Aquatic Working Waterfront Marina.
The CUP will now advance to the county board of supervisors, who are set to take up the matter at their March 4 meeting.
Planner Sean McNash discussed the details of the proposed marina and his recommendations for it. The property, located at the end of Aberdeen Creek Road, is approximately an acre in size and was previously a seafood processing plant that has not been used for years.
McNash said that although the land is currently not in use, the property is being used by watermen to off-load seafood that had been caught.
