Planners continue CIP discussion

The Mathews County Planning Commission met virtually Tuesday night to continue its discussion of the Fiscal Year 2022 Capital Improvement Plan.
The commission listened to a late request for equipment replacement at the 911 Dispatch Center at the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office. Total requested funding is $229,000, $150,000 of which is eligible for grant funding. Planners voted to delay its decision on this request for 30 days.
The planners also decided to endorse moving forward with the Hole in the Wall dredging and Haven Beach improvements to FY22 pending a successful grant application.
“Curt Smith with the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission has been hard at work preparing the Hole in the Wall dredging application for the Virginia Port Authority grant program,” according to planning and zoning documents. “There is a possibility that we could be awarded funds in FY22.
