The Historic Triangle District Cub Scouts held their annual Pinewood Derby races Saturday at the Abingdon Ruritan Club. Pinewood Derbies have been held by the Cub Scouts since 1953. Sixty Cub Scouts cheered on by their families competed in four different categories: speed, craftsmanship, originality, and the unlimited Outlaw class. The Cub Scouts represented nine different packs from the Historic Triangle District which includes: James City County, Williamsburg, Poquoson, York County and Gloucester County. The winners in each category were: Speed, James Hammonds, 199.69 mph, Pack 54 from Yorktown; Craftmanship, Freya P. Pack 595 from York County; Originality, Alexa Tocci, Pack 133, Bena; and Outlaw class, Speed, Spencer Gasbarre, 188.30 mph, Pack 200 from York County. In addition to the events inside, the Middle Peninsula Classic Cruisers displayed 12 restored vintage cars and trucks for the Cub Scouts to enjoy outside.
