Read, Rise and Shine, Inc., a local literacy nonprofit, will hold a Picnic and Pound Cake Social from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, at the Put-In Creek Pavilion on Brickbat Road in Mathews.
Read, Rise and Shine provides books, rolling libraries, handwritten thinking-of-you cards, and other resources to schools, mental health and veteran’s hospitals, nursing homes, pediatrician’s offices, and other medical facilities, said a press release.
Those attending are invited to bring their own picnic lunch and chair and listen to music by Hunter Owens. Desserts will be provided free of charge.
Donations will be accepted for a Mathews community project, Sowing Seeds of Kindness 2024, to provide Mathews Elementary School with planters for classroom gardens and students with books about being kind to others.
