Pianist to perform at Mathews High School

Pianist Jeff Little will bring his distinctive style to Mathews in a performance at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mathews High School, sponsored by Concerts by the Bay.
Little has been involved with fiddle tunes, old time country, and traditional blues since an early age, said a press release. His family owned a music shop in Boone, North Carolina, where musicians would stop by and “pick a few tunes.” He regularly sat in with many of the musicians, including the influential Doc Watson.
Evident in Little’s music is the influence of the mountain flat-picked guitar tradition, said the release, and he plays Appalachian and Americana music with breathtaking speed, precision and clarity.
Little has performed at the Smithsonian Institution, the National Folk Festival, Merle-fest, and many music venues throughout the U.S., said the release. He has been featured on National Public Radio and PBS, and has performed internationally in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
