Approximately 80 black-and-white framed pictures line the walls of the Riverside Lifelong Health and Rehabilitation-Mathews. These photos are all of various places in Mathews County. They tell a story of Mathews past.
Miriam Callis was a resident at the nursing home and a Mathews native (now deceased), who wrote in her own handwriting a brief description of each photograph. Some of these photos are numbered, some not, but all are indicative of the county’s past. Many of the places in the pictures may be forgotten, in disrepair, or possibly completely demolished, but Callis noted each picture with care so the legacy she wanted to preserve might live on.
Richard Miles, Activities Director at the facility, indicated that these pictures had originally come from the Gazette-Journal and will be preserved there for posterity.
