Private First Class Nicholas Hobert, 19, of Mathews and Fairfax, graduated from United States Marine Corps Recruit Basic Training at Parris Island on June 28. Hobert successfully completed 13 weeks of basic training at MCRD Parris Island as a part of the 1st Training Battalion, Alpha Company, Platoon 1036.
While in recruit training, PFC Hobert was assigned as squad leader and successfully led his team through a 54-hour day and night test of endurance known as the crucible. In addition, he achieved “expert” level in marksmanship and his platoon was awarded the designation of Honor Platoon. Honor platoons gain the title by winning various competitions in six different events, including Initial drill, Final drill, a written test in Marine Corps knowledge, rifle range scores, and the physical, and combat fitness tests.
After 10 days home on leave, Hobert reported to Camp Geiger for one month at Marine Combat Training where he was again assigned as squad leader. He will leave in October for...
