About a year after a large oak tree in the graveyard of Abingdon Episcopal Church, White Marsh, was transformed into a carving of Saint Francis of Assisi, the statue was moved to its permanent home on church grounds. The statue was carved by chainsaw artist Woody Hedgpeth of Raeford, N.C., when the tree was removed as a preventative measure against potential damage to the historic church building.
