Peninsula Lightning wins its pool in national festival

The Peninsula Lightning U19 field hockey team won its pool championship at the National Indoor Festival held over President’s Day weekend at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The team finished with a record of 5-0, defeating three teams from Virginia and two teams from Pennsylvania.
The team outscored its opponents by a margin of 27, scoring 29 and only giving up two goals.
The team is composed of players on the Gloucester High School field hockey teams. As a group, the team has garnered many individual and team awards over the past four years.
Lightning has three seniors with three and four years of varsity experience. Three of the four juniors have been on varsity since their freshman year with all of them having some varsity experience. Four of the six seniors are committed to play in college.
The Peninsula Power (U16) and Peninsula Hurricanes (U14) also competed and played well. The Power finished 3-1-1 beating the overall pool winner in an upset and finishing third. The Hurricanes...
