Peggy Fitzgerald Slavnik, 83, of Gloucester Point, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at home with family at her bedside, after a short battle with cancer.
Peggy was born in High Point, N.C., and moved with her family to Danville, Va., as a child. She later moved to Hampton, Va., where she met her husband of 66 years. Peggy enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor-home where they spent time in their summer house in Florida. Later she spent time at their summer house in Urbanna, where she enjoyed entertaining her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harvey and Claudie Ingram Fitzgerald, and her sister, Elizabeth Fitzgerald Bryant.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, John Francis Slavnik Jr.; four sons, John Francis Slavnik III (Cheryl) of Gloucester, James Harvey Slavnik of Florida, Daniel Ashton Slavnik (Bonnie) of Yorktown, and Tony Carlton Slavnik of Urbanna; eight beloved grandchildren, Katie, John, Matthew, Natasha, Kelly, Shane, Casey and Brooke; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews, and her beloved dog, Winnie.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz Jr. were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Parklawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
