A Celebration of Life service for Patricia Tyrrell, 64, of Urbanna, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, in Beale Memorial Baptist Church, Tappahannock. She died Monday, March 26, 2012.
Mrs. Tyrrell retired from the United States Department of Agriculture, working first as a soil conservationist and then as a Rural Conservation and Development coordinator. She served the Tidewater area for over 19 years working with 10 counties, from Dahlgren to Gloucester, and introduced such things as dry fire hydrants, and no-till farming to the area.
She was instrumental in starting the Farmers Museum in Heathsville, along with "Down on the Farm," where farmers opened their farms to the public to educate the public on farming practices. She also served as the government liaison for the Native Americans in the State of Virginia, and was involved in the Friends of the Dragon Run.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Tyrrell; her father, and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
