Patricia G. Matthews of Gloucester, Va., went to be with the Lord on July 28, 2014 at Riverside Walter Reed Convalescent Center surrounded by her family.

Patricia was born on Sept. 24, 1928 in Newport News, Va. She resided at Woods Cross Roads in Gloucester for 34 years.

She worked as a dental assistant for 18 years for Dr. Mayer Levy. She also worked at Mary Immaculate Hospital for 10 years and then was a homemaker for her remaining years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Matthews Sr.; parents, John and Mary Imbert, and sisters, Mary, Ellen, Kathleen and her brothers, Bernard, John and Albert.

Patricia is survived by her children, daughter, Pat and her husband Larry W. Fowler; son, John J. Matthews and his wife Phyllis, and son, James L. Matthews Jr. and his wife Nancy; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Larry Jr., Cassie, Shawn, Jamie, Allan, and great-grandchildren, Emilee Grace and Hailee Nicole.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Peninsula Memorial Park, with Father Mike Jolly officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Patricia G. Matthews.

On angel’s wings you were taken, but in our hearts you will stay and in God’s light you will rest. Until we meet again someday.
