Park to host ‘Ghost Forest,’ ‘Pinch Pots’ programs

Machicomoco State Park, Hayes, has a couple of events planned for this weekend.
From 6-7 p.m. Friday, the park will hold “Ghost Forest” at the interpretative area boardwalk. In this program, park rangers will highlight areas of Machicomoco that face the severe effects of climate change and offer ways the community can help to create positive impacts for such an important area of Gloucester. Recommended for participants eight years of age and older.
From 4-5 p.m. Saturday, “Pinch Pots at the Park” will allow participants to try their hand at making miniature clay pots, while learning how Virginia’s indigenous peoples created pinch pots, as well as contained and cooked their food, before European contact.
The park will provide all supplies and will be able accommodate up to 15 participants. Pre-registration is recommended by calling the park office to secure supplies and a spot; otherwise, first-come, first-served. Recommended for participants eight years and older.
