Friends of the Mathews Memorial Library will hold its fall general membership meeting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Cooke Conference Room at the library, 251 Main Street, Mathews. The meeting will also be available via Zoom, https://tinyurl.com/2s3nc6nv.
A brief business meeting to hear committee reports, confirm the 2025 slate of officers, and present the Maree Morgan Volunteer Award will be followed by a presentation on the history of Williams Wharf by Pam Muffelman.
Muffelman is a 30-year Mathews resident with a keen interest in history, said a press release. A former teacher and graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Virginia, she became enchanted with the missing history of the county and found the idea of approaching Mathews history from a water point of view intriguing. She enjoyed uncovering the rich history of the East River and the many activities that took place there and “making us realize we are not just a place at the end of the road.”
