Page Middle School is hosting 160 gifted children this week in the Middle Peninsula Summer Regional Governor’s School program.
The children attending are from school divisions in Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, New Kent, West Point, Essex, King and Queen and King William. Each school division involved is allocated slots in the program based on its enrollment.
Gloucester Public Schools has 55 students in the program and Mathews Public Schools has fewer than 10. The participating students are rising fourth through eighth graders who have been identified as gifted and talented by their schools. They attend the school free of charge.
Adrienne Barker, a Gloucester resident who teaches at Bethel High School in Hampton, is program director. Barker said she holds a school administration endorsement and this is her fourth year directing the program.
