‘Our peaceful place’

Mollie Bryant of Arlington, Texas, and her daughters Claire, at left, and Grace visited Haven Beach in Mathews last Thursday in spite of an overcast sky and a rainy forecast. A native of Suffolk, and the granddaughter of the late Frances Hudgins of New Point, Bryant said she and her family have been coming to Mathews every July for decades and that Haven Beach is “our peaceful place.” She said that during their visit, Claire and Grace are once again participating in programs at Mathews Memorial Library and the Bay School Community Arts Center. Haven Beach was closed earlier this year as 40,000 cubic yards of sand was placed along the shoreline from a dredging project at Hole in the Wall.
