Oral histories of Antioch Baptist Church in Gloucester and the Piney Swamp community will be collected Aug. 2-4 during Antioch Week.
The Fairfield Foundation is partnering with The Truth in the Spirit, stewards of the historic church located at 4604 Cedar Bush Road, to collect the histories.
Also, presentations and activities will be hosted by the church, which was part of the historic community that evolved from Fairfield Plantation, a release said. The community and area descendants are invited to attend the free events.
Individuals who have memories or stories to share about Antioch and Piney Swamp can pre-register for an interview, conducted by oral historian Dr. Jessica Taylor, at the church during a one-hour time slot between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, and between 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4.
