Open enrollment underway for health care plans

Open enrollment for health care in the federal marketplace began on Tuesday. Anyone can enroll in new coverage or make changes to an existing plan from now until Dec. 15, said a press release from the Virginia Poverty Law Center.All marketplace plans are qualified health plans that cover pre-existing conditions and offer free preventive health services, said the release.
This year, more people qualify for help because the eligibility income thresholds have increased, said the release, and enhanced subsidies are expected to lower the cost of premiums for most consumers. In addition, the Internal Revenue Service recently fixed a “family glitch,” creating access to financial help for working families who were previously determined ineligible for marketplace tax credits because of a technical error.
