Open auditions and a chorus workshop for the musical “Crickets on a Hill” will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at Central United Methodist Church, 121 Church Street, Mathews.
At least 30 men and woman are needed to portray colonists and patriots who fought in the Battle of Cricket Hill in Mathews County during the Revolutionary War. The songs for Crickets on a Hill were written in 1976 by the late Judy Ward, in collaboration with David Shuber. Shuber has fully orchestrated all of the music for this production. Accompaniment will be by the Courthouse Community Orchestra under the direction of Guy Hayden.
Show director Anita Minuth said that no acting experience is needed, just the desire to be part of this iconic tribute to the men and women of Mathews who fought during an important, definitive battle that occurred five days after the Declaration of Independence was signed.
