Editorial: One for the history books

“I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do—when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”
Those 31 words concluded a brief statement from Joe Biden released Sunday afternoon, where the president put to rest weeks of speculation, announcing his withdrawal from the November general election.
This has definitely been a presidential election for the history books, especially in the days following the June 27 debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump. Even before the two men stepped off the CNN stage that night, questions began to swirl about Biden’s age and his ability to govern for another four years. A growing chorus of Democrats suggested it may be time for another person to become the party’s standard-bearer, and the issue became fodder for more and more news coverage.
