After a major repair project with lengthy delays, the Gwynn’s Island bridge is expected to finally resume on-demand openings for marine traffic this Sunday, Oct. 15.
According to Virginia Department of Transportation communications specialist Alexis Breeden, the rehabilitation project was nearly complete as of Tuesday morning. The traffic signals had been removed from each end of the bridge’s approach in late September, with two-way traffic resuming at that time.
Until the project ends, bridge openings will continue to occur up to six times a day, at 2 a.m., 5 a.m., 8 a.m., 11 a.m., 7 p.m., and 10 p.m., when marine traffic is present.
