A Northern Virginia teenager, with the help of his younger brother, has collected and delivered over $20,000 worth of football equipment to the Gloucester Youth Football League—just in time for league practices, which begin Monday.
Scotty Lafoon Jr., a rising senior at McLean High School, and his brother Ben, also a McLean student, started their equipment drive after learning of the GYFL’s loss in the April tornado.
The tornado devastated about a third of Page Middle School and destroyed a storage shed on the campus that housed GYFL’s equipment. The Lafoon brothers learned of the loss from their step-father, John Ordbargerstock, who is an old friend of Gloucester High School head football coach Sonny Merchant and assistant coach Randy Applegate.
