Northern Neck Distinctive Bazaar gives new life to donated items

Audrey Lowery, a retired language arts teacher from Gloucester County Public Schools, held the 27th annual Distinctive Bazaar of the Northern Neck at Irvington United Methodist Church this past Saturday. This bazaar coincided with the Irvington Farmers’ Market.
Items at the bazaar include baked goods such as cakes, pies, cookies, pickles, jams and jelly. The bazaar also has a gift shop with handmade items. Most of the items are made by Lowery and Mary Margaret Hearold, who is a 65-year-old woman with special needs. Hearold and Lowery are cousins. Hearold started working with Lowery about 25 years ago to create items to sell at the bazaar.
“We work together, said Lowery. “We work every Saturday and I teach her how to do the things.”
Hearold said that her favorite thing to make is the nutcracker wreaths and she enjoys what she does. “I enjoy coming out here. I like working,” she said.
