Universal broadband in Mathews County came a small step closer to reality recently, as Open Broadband LLC, the internet service provider installing equipment in Mathews and Gloucester under one of two Virginia Telecommunications Grants, installed the first piece of customer equipment for the project at the home of Randall and Jill Casciello of North.
“This installation is a major milestone in our quest to provide high-speed internet to all county residents,” said Mathews Broadband Advisory Board financial coordinator Joe Syslo.
The rollout will continue until all grant-identified addresses have had the opportunity to be connected, he said. Priority is being placed on addresses covered by the VATI grant, he said, but the plan is to eventually make high-speed internet available to all county residents.
