Nora Kathleen Diggs, known to most as Kathy, passed away on April 14, 2025 at the age of 78. She was the daughter of the late Thomas L. and Nora Taylor and John T. Billing.

Kathy was a lifelong resident of Mathews County and a graduate of the Mathews High School Class of 1964. Kathy went to work for the United States Postal Service as a clerk the year her son started grade school and retired as the Postmaster of Hudgins after 34 years.

In her retirement, Kathy enjoyed traveling, working in her yard, and spending time with her postal girlfriends (as they call themselves) and her only grandson, Ryan. Kathy was also a member of Mathews Baptist Church.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol Ann McKinley, and very special cousins, Barbara Jean Hogge, Harold Pennington, and Patricia Brooks Crossett.

Kathy is survived by her children, Donna Kay Akins (Gary) and Douglas Scott Diggs (April), both of Cobbs Creek, Va.; her grandson, Ryan Scott Chriscoe (Keith) of Buckhead, Ga.; her sister, Bonnie Sue Smith (Allen), and her nieces, Jenny and Mindy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Mathews Baptist Church in Hudgins. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service between 11 and 12 o’clock. Pastor Brian Kramer will be conducting. Interment will follow the service at H.C. Smithers Cemetery, also in Hudgins.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for the exceptional care provided to their mother over the last several months. They also cannot fail to mention the overwhelming support received from all of their family and friends during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Mathews County Volunteer Fire Department or the Mathews Rescue Squad.
