To recognize Black History Month, seventh grade students in Alice Chestnutt’s Language Arts class at Page Middle School conducted a unit on the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court case. Throughout the unit, the students learned about nonfiction standards of text structures and features, as well as the seventh-grade research standards. Page students were tasked with researching students from counties all over Virginia who desegregated schools to understand the challenges they experienced. The students then created nonfiction articles with the skills they learned in class on these individuals, which were turned into a gallery display in the main hall at Page, above.
