Newport News Park serves as the nerve center for festivities at the northern end of the city. This is the site of Virginia’s first drive-thru light show, called Celebration in Lights. Now in its 30th year, the event’s busiest night was during its first season in 1993—on a Saturday in mid-December of that year, 2,563 vehicles drove through the park. The light show can be seen from 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily through Jan. 1.
