New work catalogs Gloucester’s many schools

Gloucester County has a rich educational history, with over 90 public schools having served the community at one time or another.
Dr. Colleen Betti has attempted to gather this data, along with photographs and other material, into a newly released book, speaking about her work at a lecture and book signing on Sunday afternoon.
The program, hosted by the Gloucester Historical Society, Fairfield Foundation, Gloucester Museum Foundation, Gloucester Genealogical Society and the Gloucester Museum of History and held in the county’s colonial courthouse, provided an opportunity to showcase Betti’s research and her new book, “A History of Gloucester County Public Schools.”
“I was lucky that Colleen ended up hanging out with us (Fairfield Foundation) way back in 2009 for a couple of days over a summer,” Dr. David Brown, co-director of the Fairfield Foundation, said in introducing Betti.
