Spring of 1958 brought a new band to the music scene in Mathews: “Mac” McKenney’s Hi-Fi Ork, a dance band led by Thomas Hunter High School teacher M.A. McKenney Sr. The members included, first row from left, John Carter, alto sax; M.A. McKenney Sr., tenor sax and Sylvia Thomas, piano; and back row, M.A. McKenney Jr., electric bass, Boyd Jackson, drums, and Frank Jarvis, guitar.
