A new principal has been hired for Thomas Hunter Middle School, along with a reshuffling of staff at Mathews High and Mathews Elementary schools.
The Mathews County School Board approved the personnel changes by a 4-1 margin (with Bobby Dobson casting the lone nay vote) following a closed session at the end of Tuesday’s monthly meeting in the Brooks Auditorium at THMS.
New to the division is THMS principal Jodie Simpson, who comes to Mathews from Gloucester. Simpson most recently served as assistant principal at Gloucester High School; before that, she held the same position at both Peasley Middle School and Botetourt Elementary, having worked in Gloucester County Public Schools for the past 14 years, according to her LinkedIn profile. Simpson will oversee the county’s fifth, sixth and seventh graders, as the eighth grade class moves to MHS in the fall.
