New owner takes over Wild Rabbit

The Wild Rabbit Café, a popular restaurant on Main Street in Gloucester village, is now under new ownership.

Ana Ferreira bought the business Dec. 1 from Eric Weisel. Both are Gloucester residents.

Ferreira is no stranger to the restaurant, having worked there for more than five years, most recently as manager.

Ferreira said she plans to retain some of the restaurant’s sandwiches, soups, salads and casual offerings such as rich desserts and smoothies. Among the most popular items are the specialty house salad, zucchini bread and quiche.

She also plans to expand the number of wraps offered, many combining veggies with a protein, and has brought in a well-liked line of bagels. "I want to add some simple things," Ferreira said, and has put basics including grilled cheese, BLT, and turkey club sandwiches on the menu.

Also, Ferreira said she plans to draw on her Portuguese and New England upbringing to add some menu items from those cultures. Daily special...
