New contractor rules to be explained Monday

A meeting for local contractors will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Gloucester Library in Main Street Center.

Kevin Wilson, Gloucester’s Commissioner of the Revenue, said speakers will include himself, Gloucester building official Paul Koll, and a representative of the State Contractors Board.

According to Wilson, the rules for getting a new contractor’s permit or to renew an existing permit here and in other localities throughout the state have changed. Starting this summer, contractors must now obtain a state license before they can receive a local permit.

Although contractors were supposed to get a state license before applying for a local business permit, Wilson said, not all of them did. Under the new rules, a contractor must show proof of a state license before he or she can receive a new permit or renew an existing permit.
